Oh, my colleagues on the RH7.1~7.3 9ir2 by 817 and, almost always, in slackware 8, there were 810 more smoothly. Oracle SUSE seems to be recommended by itself.

Oracle recommends using suse.
Why not depressed Oracle for Freebsd.

Take a look at the attached snapshot of Oracle 's certified platforms. Both Dell and HP provides Oracle on Linux. and both of them uses Red Hat Linux only.
So, to answer your questions, it 's a better bet to use Red Hat. There are some optimizations need to be done. and they are provided with the documentations on Oracle 's web site.
A general rule of thumb, do 't use the latest and greatest. Use the last qualified, certified release. In other words, you will have better luck with a smooth installation on older releases such as RH 7.1, 7.2 or even 6.2 with 2.2.19 Kernel.

Just on the installation, I installed under the mandrake more smoothly than redhat. I remember that the recommendation is suse Oracle
