Hmmm. How did you install the FreeBSD?
I think you might have a disc (or discs) of FreeBSD.
Couldn 't install needed pkgs from CD??

Re : FreeBSD 4.4 users ordinary X installed?

I installed the basic system with the first CD, but the CD is not mine. And it not here!

On the other hand, I use NetBSD &OpenBSD, and the OS X of the two are perfectly good!

Can you tell me what were you doing on the user 's X after the New FreeBSD' s installation!

Thank you!

If i got a chance, i 'd give Net/Open a try. :-)

I 've d/led the ISO image (disc1) provided on the ftp site to do the basic installation of FreeBSD.
After that, i just used sysinstall to install pkgs (X stuff, warpper, and maybe also some dependence).
And then all things went fine.

Re : FreeBSD 4.4 X

Maybe the problem merely occured in FreeBSD 4.4. And in the "<FreeBSD from scratch>> 司, Wangbo also mentioned the problem. but the solution is too simple, not turns for everypeople.

I find no one refer it as a problem in this forum, so I thought someone will give me an answer, but only two fans, you and me. are talking here. "*!*>!!!

Re : FreeBSD 4.4 users ordinary X installed?

"FreeBSD 4.4 X ordinary users can not activate!

What wrong message?

Re : FreeBSD 4.4 users ordinary X installed?

XFree 4.xx suid the authority to use the X-Server X warpper replace /usr/X11R6/bin/X> /usr/X11R6/bin/XFree86 link, the procedure to become a suid to enhance safety. In fact, if you do not want to use X on the network and need to be activated inside the X /usr/X11R6/bin/startx the script, it can not open accession -nolisten tcp port 6000, the only local X.

In addition, a cheat pkg dependent on the method used is to tar *.tgz order to solve revised +CONTENTS documents, pkgdep firms excision and re-packing can.

FreeBSD 4.6, replacing 3.3.6 as the default X XFree864.2 installed, you can wait out FreeBSD inadmissible version of the patch, go download and installation.

Re : FreeBSD 4.4 users ordinary X installed?

Will the re-packaged, it will affect the normal use, or whether the system will not be fully installed!
