Betas of IE7 will be available this summer
Blue Forest http://www.lslnet.com  on August 2007

Today at RSA, Bill Gates talked about Internet Explorer 7. As the guy responsible for IE, I wanted to say a couple of things about it...First, some basics: we’re committing to deliver a new version of Internet Explorer for Windows XP customers. Betas of IE7 will be available this summer. This new release will build on the work we did in Windows XP SP2 and (among other things) go further to defend users from phishing as well as deceptive or malicious software.

Why? Because we listened to customers, analysts, and business partners. We heard a clear message: “Yes, XP SP2 makes the situation better. We want more, sooner. We want security on top of the compatibility and extensibility IE gives us, and we want it on XP. Microsoft, show us your commitment.”

I think of today’s announcement as a clear statement back to our customers: “Hey, Microsoft heard you. We’re committing.”

Why are we talking about it today? Because our customers and partners have asked us, with increasing urgency, what our plans are. We want to convey our intentions to our customers and partners clearly and in a timely way.

I’ve gotten questions about the ship date. Yes, we have a date in mind. I’ll talk about the date after we get feedback from customers and partners. We’re going to release a beta and listen, then refresh the beta and listen some more. We’ll ship when the product is ready.

I’ve also gotten questions about support for Windows 2000. Right now, we’re focused on XP SP2. We’re actively listening to our major Windows 2000 customers about what they want and comparing that to the engineering and logistical complexity of that work. That’s all I can say on that topic.

Please know that the IE team is working hard. We’re eager to improve and better secure the web experience for the hundreds of millions of IE users around the world. We delivered on our part of XP SP2. We are actively delivering on our part of a great 64-bit Windows client. We continue to deliver on security updates for customers (across several versions of IE (back to IE 5.01) and Windows). We’re going to deliver on IE7.

Well it's about dbloody time.
Old Billy Goates said that he has listened and heard,,,,FINALLY,,,well all I can say is that he must be partially deaf or just thick because it sure has taken a long time to get through to him about IE being out dated. He sounded a bit on the defensive side for a change.
He says that he is the guy responsible for IE,,I hope that he does not mean that in a hands on situation because I wouldn't trust him with a plastic knife let alone give him IE to mess with. It's bad enough as it is.

RE : TOP
Gill Bates can't even Spell IE, let alone know what to do with it, except add more bugs and security flaws to it.

Re: Betas of IE7 will be available this summerTOP
I just hope they don't take all the bugs out. That would be unfortunate and I would miss them.

I already wrote an email to the company pleading that the ActiveX controls be left in, and they the company should just ignore all the complaints about it. It is stable, and reliable enough to let anyone successfully take over another user's computer.

If Microsoft is anything, it is reliable to create more bugs than they correct.

Re: Betas of IE7 will be available this summerTOP
Idiots are scared that there loosing their battle against WORLD Domination LMAO!!!

Re: Betas of IE7 will be available this summerTOP
Download.com proundly present IE7 Beta, Another "CRAP" from Microsoft.

Re: Betas of IE7 will be available this summerTOP
It will still and always be the piece of crap, lame excuse, bug infested wanna-be Browser, from the folks who brought us Virus95 and it's successors.

Microslop should leave well enough alone. Actually, they should leave ALL the bugs in the Browser...it might work better. Won't be great for security, but that's not MS's strong points.

At Microsoft, Quality is Job 1.1 :)

ROFL
As usual most ppl attacking MS are completely ignorant about computers, or at least they portray themselves as such. No point in trying to educate those pea brains.
They've jumped on the "hate MS & Bill Gates" bandwagon. Followers without resources to do some research on facts themselves.
First price for ignorance goes to Creemoreguy with the statement:
"They lost the Browser battle quite some time ago"
Of course refering to MS and Internet Explorer.

Fact: IE had over 90% of market in 1990. They had 93% in summer of last year. They now have 87%.
Nice math calling it a lost war when they own 87% of the market :)

Only one with knowledge seems to be RobinBanks.
I agree in most of what he says. Especially on ActiveX issue. Of course that is one of the first features I disable in IE.

Reason for their decision on separating IE7 from the release of Longhorn was implied "in between the lines" as to being the rise of popularity of Firefox and it's big take on the browser market. Actually, Firefox alone is the reason for IE's lost browser share. The rest of the Gecko based browsers, and others like Opera, Safari, etc are standing still.

Competition (Firefox) is a good thing :)

RE : TOP
Just FYI, I've forgotten more about computer hardware and software, than you will ever know.
It doesn't take an Einstein to know that MS makes buggy, insecure software and an incredibly lame excuse of a Browser.

Fact: as per your post...IE HAD...repeat HAD over 90% of market in 1990. 25 years ago? WOW!! Did NOT have 93% in summer of last year. Now, they have 87%?? I don't know where you learned Math, but it sounds to me that they're losing their Dominating grip in the Browser market, according to your incorrect statistics.

Any person in the know does NOT use Winblows as their main O/S, for the obvious reasons, one being that it's NOT an O/S. For clarifications, look at the source code, if you are able to do such an easy task.
It's got DOS written all over it. DOS is the O/S. Windows is...well...the dressing. :)

Any person who wishes fast, secure and reliable web browsing, does Not use IE, but something more reliable. Mozilla is the choice of the people in the know and Opera makes a good alternative.

The human race is not a very intelligent creature at all, or the world wouldn't be as messed up as it is.
But I like arguing with all of those with such a low esteeme that they need to refer to themselves as intelligent. Delusions? Wishful thinking? :)

Since I'm not very intelligent at all I'll stick to IE. I just can't figure out why all the so called intelligent people keep getting virii or hacked.
In my 15 years on Internet and 25 years on networks I've never had any virii (trojan, virus, worm, etc) nor ever got hacked, at least not as far as my IDS have been able to detect. Not counting my personal files share of trojans and stuff.
My home network with Slack, FreeBSD, w2k, w3k DC, XP and others are clean as a whistle.
Wonder what I'd do if I was intelligent :P
Would be fun for a dumb user like me to do some phishing on all the intelligent Firefox users ;)
